Laura Kuchynka worked in the fashion and design field in the 1980’s but discovered her love for studio art and began pursuing art classes in the 90’s. She entered University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC) in 2002 to study Printmaking with Craig Subler. She completed her degree in Studio Art in 2004. Presently Laura’s medium is oils, acrylic multimedia painting, relief and intaglio printing and alcohol inks.
Attention to texture and color in her process parallels her background in printmaking and the apparel and design industry. Laura incorporates the design fundamental structure of construction form, line and texture. These elements are also the basis of process-oriented interaction of her work. The fluid, organic progression of her work grows with a multitude of surface materials and concepts. She strips away the unnecessary, to create focus. By threading opposing tendencies she strives to reveal the illusion of visual harmony.
